It was refreshing seeing teen Austen pull out tales different to her literary works, with the interesting part being her never intenting to share these publicly。 The writing seemed very unabridged, with words randomly capitalized in the middle of sentences and very quirky spellings。 In these aspects, The Beautifull Cassandra was a fun one to come across。 But have I told you that the way she approaches her stories doesn't seem to work for me 80% of the time? I abstain from rating this novel as it was not meant to be published anyway。 It belongs to the author’s juvenile collection, which was only written to amuse and entertain her family, never supposed be out in the world for the judgmental eyes of her readers。 I can see the foundation of her novels in her younger days, her wit and courage reflects itself in these one-sentenced chapters, where Casssandra ventures out into the world without fear, stripped of all moral norms and conventions of the soc I abstain from rating this novel as it was not meant to be published anyway。 It belongs to the author’s juvenile collection, which was only written to amuse and entertain her family, never supposed be out in the world for the judgmental eyes of her readers。 I can see the foundation of her novels in her younger days, her wit and courage reflects itself in these one-sentenced chapters, where Casssandra ventures out into the world without fear, stripped of all moral norms and conventions of the society。 She dons an expensive bonnet prepared for some royalty and leaves home without a single care in mind, she steals, she attacks, she takes advantage of people; doing whatever she wants all day and returns to the safety of her home without feeling any guilt。 This is quite unfamiliar and shockingly bold for Austen as her protagonists are the embodiment of refinement, elegance and good etiquette who do not step out of the conformations of the society。 I enjoyed reading this because come on, it’s Austen you guys, I cling to whatever she left us like there’s no tomorrow。 。。。more

These excerpts from Austen's early works really show one how she had the potential to become one of the most celebrated writers later on。 HENRY AND ELIZA was absolutely the best 🧡 These excerpts from Austen's early works really show one how she had the potential to become one of the most celebrated writers later on。 HENRY AND ELIZA was absolutely the best 🧡 。。。more

Принципно не съм фен на Джейн Остин。 Това не се промени и след тази книга。 Илюстрациите определено ми харесаха。

this is the first, out of the many works by austen, that i have finished (i first read pride and prejudice but im still not done) and i must say how this left me smiling throughout the whole thing。 it was so fascinating, as a teenager myself, to read the early works of a remarkable author that were written during her time。 especially the short chapters in “the beautifull cassandra” that kept me in awe。

Although the story’s lack what her later books possess, It was fun to experience Austen’s teenage writings。

Cute fun little stories。 Obviously more juvenile, but entertaining and brilliant。

I have not finished reading any work by Jane Austen before I read these short stories and letters。 I am reasonably sure that I eventually will read her novels。The title story here is by far the weakest story。 Even this had some wit and humour about it that meant that it was at least entertaining。 Which is the best I can say about the collection of stories。 They were all entertaining on some way。 Any Austen completist will probably relish these glimpses into her early works。 I don't want to be to I have not finished reading any work by Jane Austen before I read these short stories and letters。 I am reasonably sure that I eventually will read her novels。The title story here is by far the weakest story。 Even this had some wit and humour about it that meant that it was at least entertaining。 Which is the best I can say about the collection of stories。 They were all entertaining on some way。 Any Austen completist will probably relish these glimpses into her early works。 I don't want to be too harsh on them as they definitely held the seeds for some of the most loved works of humanity。 。。。more

It is so wonderful to see the teenage Jane Austen writing this kind of short stories。

everyone in every short story is a big simp lmao also Cassandra is fruity claiming it

Jane Austen's juvenilia is dark, witty, and scathing about society - all of which would be perfected in her later works。 However, these short pieces of writing are also cheekly; a delightful tone that makes the stories enchanting。 Jane Austen's juvenilia is dark, witty, and scathing about society - all of which would be perfected in her later works。 However, these short pieces of writing are also cheekly; a delightful tone that makes the stories enchanting。 。。。more

As a former English lit major, I’m embarrassed to say this was my first encounter with Jane Austen (since “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies” doesn’t really count)。 Austen’s teenage trifles are certainly better than anything _I_ penned when I was in secondary school, but they are trifles nonetheless; one day I’ll have to get ‘round to reading some of her more mature works。

Probably not the best introduction to Jane Austen。 The stories were written when she was a teenager for fun, and are understandably charming but somewhat awkward。

Im not gonna rate this, i normally read classics in my own language but this one wasnt available other than in english。Therefore i didnt quite understand everything, i think i understand like 75 % of it。Must say it was quite funny at times

Strong 3。5-4 stars。 I quite liked this little collection of Austen's "juvenilia" (AND incidentally, the opportunity to learn what "juvenilia" means)。 It was sweet to think of Jane Austen as a young teenager producing these little stories and snippets for the entertainment of her family。 I was surprised but amused with some of the darker themes and twists in these stories (which seem to contrast with the light-hearted levity and happy endings of her later full length novels), but found the seeds Strong 3。5-4 stars。 I quite liked this little collection of Austen's "juvenilia" (AND incidentally, the opportunity to learn what "juvenilia" means)。 It was sweet to think of Jane Austen as a young teenager producing these little stories and snippets for the entertainment of her family。 I was surprised but amused with some of the darker themes and twists in these stories (which seem to contrast with the light-hearted levity and happy endings of her later full length novels), but found the seeds of her signature wit and keen observations of human behavior I so appreciate in her later work on full display。 。。。more
